About Me.

How Sustainability Became My Life’s Purpose

Growing up in Guntakal, a small town in Andhra Pradesh, India, sustainability wasn’t just an abstract concept—it was a daily reality. Water scarcity defined our lives, with drinking water delivered just once every 3–4 days, and in summers, as rarely as once in 10 days. These challenges shaped my understanding of environmental resilience and fueled a lifelong commitment to finding solutions that create lasting change.

From those formative experiences, I developed a deep passion for sustainability that has guided my education, career, and personal mission to make the world a better, more sustainable place.

Where Passion Meets Knowledge

My academic journey began at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where I explored the intersection of materials engineering and sustainability. During my time there, I worked on Buckypaper, an innovative material made of carbon nanotubes and nanohorns. My research focused on synthesizing and testing Buckypaper as a microporous layer for proton exchange membrane fuel cells—key to advancing clean energy technologies. This project deepened my understanding of how science-backed solutions can drive sustainability, and the research culminated in a published paper.

Eager to expand my expertise, I pursued a Master’s in Green Management and Sustainability at Bocconi University in Italy. There, I collaborated with EY Italy on a groundbreaking project that explored the implementation of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations for medium-sized banks. By developing scenario analysis models, we provided these banks with a roadmap to assess climate-related risks and future-proof their operations. This experience helped me merge sustainability with strategy and governance, a skill set I’ve applied throughout my career.

Building Solutions for a Sustainable World
Tata Steel, India

I began my career at Tata Steel, stepping into the dynamic operations of a 4-million-ton-per-annum steel manufacturing unit. As the first female operations manager in the plant’s 25-year history, I led a team of over 80 employees and spearheaded transformative initiatives. Over the years, I launched eight process improvement projects that increased peak production by 20% and implemented predictive data analytics to reduce defects, saving millions annually. My efforts to embed circular economy principles—such as increasing recycled material use and reducing raw material consumption—further enhanced efficiency and sustainability.

At DSM Engineering Materials in the Netherlands, I focused on embedding sustainability into the company’s DNA. I led the development of bio-based and recycled material portfolios, co-creating solutions with suppliers that earned the prestigious 2019 Procurement Award for excellence in sustainability. One of my proudest achievements was building a carbon footprint database for over 2,000 material grades, giving the company a comprehensive tool to measure, reduce, and communicate its environmental impact.

Currently, as a Senior Sustainability Business Development Manager at AWS, I help public sector organizations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa achieve their sustainability goals using advanced cloud technologies. From leveraging digital twins and IoT to deploying AI/ML and generative AI, I work with clients to develop innovative solutions for climate resilience and resource optimization. I’ve also guided organizations in reducing their IT carbon footprints, delivering measurable impact while contributing to global sustainability goals.

Presenting at global events, authoring publications, and training hundreds of colleagues in ESG have been incredible opportunities to combine my technical expertise with my passion for leadership and storytelling.

Giving Back and Building a Better Future

Sustainability isn’t just about the environment—it’s about people, communities, and the legacy we leave behind. This belief drives my deep commitment to education and empowerment. Through initiatives like Evidyaloka and Vigyan Shaala, I’ve reached over 60,000 rural students in India, creating regional-language STEM modules and delivering more than 200 hours of teaching.

These experiences remind me of the importance of equity in education and how empowering individuals can create ripple effects of positive change. Whether it’s mentoring future leaders, inspiring young minds, or working on innovative sustainability projects, I am on a mission to create a brighter, more sustainable future for everyone.
